Sanita

Sanita is one of Tufutafoe's most experienced defenders. Her years of service embody the sacrifices behind a warrior's reputation and the hopes that remain when duty has been fulfilled.

Sina

Sina leads the warriors who defend Tufutafoe and its surrounding forests. A formidable spear fighter and demanding teacher, she becomes Salini's guide to an unfamiliar world. Beneath her stern authority are fierce loyalty, practical compassion and hopes that reach beyond the battlefield.

Tele

Towering above the warriors of Tufutafoe, Tele is a giant whose strength can shift stones no ordinary group could move. His warm greeting to Sina and instinct to protect her companions reveal an ally behind the intimidating appearance.

Apu

A young man of Tufutafoe, Apu brings warmth and a personal connection to Salini's unfamiliar surroundings. His attentiveness and growing courage make him central to her sense of belonging, while his devotion becomes a force with consequences far beyond the village.

Dr. Sanderson

Anthropologist Mark Sanderson studies the legends of Polynesia. His expertise connects the expedition's discoveries to stories passed down through generations, although the past may contain more than his scholarly explanations allow.

Akanutu

Akanutu is the enigmatic leader of the Little People, beings whose knowledge unsettles Salini's understanding of history. Communicating directly through thought, she offers guidance and the possibility of returning home. Her calm authority leaves Salini with as many questions as answers.

The Little People or Laiti

Known to The People as powerful beings and to Salini as a profound mystery, the Laiti possess telepathic communication and technology beyond her understanding. Their knowledge offers possibilities, but their requests force difficult questions about trust and obligation.

Tosana

As high chief of Tufutafoe, Tosana carries responsibility for her community's safety and customs. Her decisions help determine whether a strange outsider can find a place among The People, while the dangers surrounding the village test the authority she represents.

Faleolefe

Feared by Tufutafoe and regarded as a god by its enemies, Faleolefe haunts the mystery surrounding the coastal caves. Salini is drawn into a mission against a being whose true nature is unknown, carrying a weapon said to have been made for that purpose.

Big Tooth

In the forest near the ancient pyramid, even experienced warriors fear Big Tooth. A massive saber-toothed mother cat, she combines speed, patience and overwhelming strength. To protect their community, Tufutafoe's defenders must confront a predator at home in its own territory.

Professor Mene

An experienced archaeology professor and Shaelene's longtime mentor, Mene knows how to navigate the institutions behind an expedition. His efforts to shape her career collide with her determination to direct her own research.

Panani

As a talking chief, Panani preserves the histories and traditions of The People. Her lessons help Salini understand a civilization whose knowledge is carried through stories, ceremonial language and collective memory.

Matitoa

Matitoa preserves the deeds and genealogies of The People through practiced storytelling. Her voice gives the community a way to remember its warriors and to carry their lives into the generations that follow.
